Limpopo’s biggest radio station, Thobela FM might lose over one million listeners if they fail to give King Monada the recognition he deserves. This is accordingly to thousands of listeners who have been invading the SABC-owned radio station’s social media platforms since the announcement of Master KG’s song Skeleton Move as the Summer Song of the Year during the crossover to 2019.
Many people expected the Limpopo-based music genius King Monada to win swimmingly with his hit Malwedhe but the votes decided otherwise. Fellow Limpopo artist Master KG walked away with the biggest prize, and King Monada came second. The results sparked a huge war on social media with many young people vowing to boycott the station.
Screenshots of two Thobela FM DJs decampaigning Monada emerged on the 1st of January. In the screenshots, DJs Kwenisto and Boeli publicly said they don’t want Monada to win because he failed to attend their event which took place in December last year. They went on to show their support for Monada’s home boy and fellow musician Master KG.
Below are some of the complaints and shade levelled against Thobela FM:
“This song #Malwedhe has been played across AFRICA but didn’t make to take us to 2019, this funny of you Thobela fm moshate wa mona le Malwedhe, I’m very dissapoited but we remain king monada supporters coz all u know as part of sabc is to promote Zulu, Malwedhe remain song of the year no matter how u corrupted it,” wrote Neo Masatlho Ramalatso on Thobela FM’s Facebook page.
“Nna I’m going back to YFM , I’m no longer a member of Thobela Fm. I don’t want to see myself crying again this year. I cried enough last year 2018 so I don’t want to get hurt,” wrote Tebogo Mojapelo
Thobela FM and the two DJs have not replied to the allegations levelled against them.
