Nyaope Boys planning to steal Zuma’s North West ‘statue’ and sell it as recycled scap metal

Nyaope Boys around Gauteng and North West are planning to steal the Jacob Zuma ‘statue’ in a small Bokone Bophirima town of Groot-Marico. They are angry because they believe a criminal should not be honoured.

“You see my brother, Zuma is a thief and he doesn’t deserve any honour. He has his own monument built by our parents’ tax money in Nkandla. I don’t understand why millions should be spent honouring a man who has already honoured himself,” said a man who identified himself as the president of Nyaope Boys Association (NBA).

“We will steal the statue and sell it as recycled scrap metal. That will be our radical economic transformation. Our soldiers on the ground are ready and we are not turning back. We cannot condone waste of money on people who do not deserve to be honoured. It’s only in South Africa where a thief is honoured,” he added.

On Wednesday president Zuma opened a monument erected in his honour in the North West province at the newly established Groot-Marico Heritage Site. Community members in the area were not impressed with the monument because they saw it as nothing but waste of resources that could have been used for service delivery.
